High Density Protection for up to 15 Servers

IRVINE , Calif. — October 30, 2007 —

MGE Office Protection Systems ( www.mgeops.com ) – a world leader in providing end-to-end power protection systems for today’s power hungry computing, IT and industrial applications – today announced the introduction of its new Evolution UPS. Responding to user’s quest for flexible protection with a low Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), the new Evolution units are the perfect solution for protecting rack-optimized servers, storage systems and Internetworking equipment against damaging and costly power disruptions.

Industry firsts:

The Evolution is the first line-interactive UPS in its class with an adaptable, multi-position PDU (Power Distribution Unit) that provides an innovative, space saving method of easily adding receptacles to the back, side or top of the UPS – freeing up much needed space in dense rack environments. In addition, optional universal HotSwap Maintenance By-Pass modules allow the UPS to be replaced without interrupting the power supply – assuring power continuity.

Flexibility and power availability:

The Evolution 650/850/1150/1550 and 2000VA models all feature multiple form factors to suit any need: Tower, Rack/Tower versatile with a choice of depth sizes to accommodate a variety of rack enclosures. At only 1.75” (1U), 3.5” (2U) high along with a 5.25” (3U) short depth 3kVA unit to accommodate typically shallow telecom racks/enclosures, the Evolution’s innovative slim design breaks the size barrier and increases the power density to assure continual power for IT systems.

For critical applications needing extended runtime during prolonged power outages, the Evolution S 1250/1750/2500 and 3000VA models can accommodate up to 4 external battery modules providing ample

time to keep a Windows 2000/NT/2003 server running for up to 145 minutes (at 100% load) – plenty of time to ride through most power disturbances or to allow for an orderly shutdown during an extended power blackout. As with its other UPS systems, microprocessor controlled charging extends battery life up to 50 percent, while smart battery management protects against deep discharging and assures advanced warning when the hot-swappable batteries eventually need replacement.

Due to the Evolution’s high-frequency line-interactive technology, these units deliver a clean sinewave output (a must for servers), voltage correction as well as wide input voltage tolerances (especially important in fluctuating power environments). A variety of additional advanced features ensure maximum protection for all connected equipment. MGE’s Powershare™ technology provides two programmable outlets on the Evolution units that can be used to quickly reset network devices remotely and allocate longer backup times to the most critical equipment. A cold start capability allows users to turn on the UPS and connected equipment even after the power has failed.

Communications:

Local or remote network power administration is handled easily through the unit’s USB and serial ports with the robust Solution-Pac power management software for popular Windows, Linux, UNIX and MacOS operating systems. Solution-Pac provides advanced power management for enterprise-wide servers as well as SNMP or Web-based remote monitoring. With an intuitive graphical interface, the software assures automatic orderly shutdown of unattended servers during extended outages, automatic reboot, remote monitoring as well as alarm condition notification via email, fax and pager. The robust software suite also includes free updates downloadable from www.mgeops.com . Network integration with HP OpenView, IBM Netview, CA Unicenter, and HP Insight Manager is easily handled with an optional network management card. Each Evolution UPS comes with a free version of Enterprise Power Manager to manage up to five UPSs or other power devices (PDUs, PoE midspans), regardless of brand. Additional optional communications solutions including network management cards, environmental sensors and remote displays are also available.

Total Cost of Ownership:

The Evolutions’ high efficiency design saves energy and prevents excess heat – imperative in dense rack configurations. In addition, high output factor of 0.9 avoids over sizing the UPS to protect servers, such as blades, with Power Factor Corrected (PFC) power supplies. Available now, the Evolution models start at $314 list and include a complete package including Solution-Pac power management software, Enterprise Power Management software for 5 nodes as well as cables, rails, brackets and a screwdriver. In addition, the new systems feature a comprehensive two-year warranty that includes battery replacement. Extended warranties are available to provide a total of 3 or 5 years of coverage.
